Aging Skin - You Can Slow It Down

Aging skin care is a topic of interest to a lot of people today. With the Baby Boom generation heading into retirement, and people living longer than ever, there are more aging and elderly people alive today than there has ever been before. One of the most visible and readily apparent signs of age is the effects on skin, namely wrinkles. Aging skin care is thus of primary concern for people that want to slow down the visible effects of their age.

Wrinkles are caused by damage to the proteins in your skin responsible for its elasticity. The protein in skin primarily responsible for its elasticity is appropriately named ‘elastin’. Like any other protein, elastin is subject to damage from free radicals and UV radiation. Essentially, it is free radicals that do all the damage in the long run, and aging skin care basically falls into different ways to counter their effects.

A free radical is just a scientific word for any number of oxygen molecules that have been split and are therefore very reactive, damaging any proteins or DNA molecules they crash into before being absorbed. The DNA damage they do can lead to skin cancers, and the protein damage they do leads to wrinkles. Free radicals are absorbed by substances called antioxidants, and so any aging skin care that involves the use of antioxidants will likely be effective.

Antioxidants can be applied in the form of a cream or moisturizer, directly to the skin. Some common examples are vitamins C and E, and the compound Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA). These compounds will not reverse wrinkles, but will help slowdown their onset. Even more important is maintaining a diet that is high in antioxidants. Fruits, berries, and dark colored vegetables are all high in antioxidants and are therefore important in aging skin care.

Perhaps more important than antioxidants is reducing the amount of free radicals you introduce into your body in the first place. UV radiation will split oxygen present in your skin into free radicals, and smoking essentially soaks your body in an assortment of free radicals as well. Quitting smoking and avoiding excessive sun exposure are thus great first steps to take for aging skin care. If you are planning on being in the sun, make sure you apply plenty of sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.

A combination of all these measures will help you maintain youthful looking skin longer. If you already have wrinkles, using plenty of moisturizers or anti-aging creams may help reduce their appearance, but there aren’t any products that will permanently remove wrinkles.

How to Get Rid of a Double Chin and Tighten Sagging Face Muscles

Got a double chin? Sagging cheeks? Here are unique double chin exercises and exercises for face muscles. C. A. Sampson, an athlete and the author of “Strength,” discovered that the pressure of bands or straps tightly fastened around the arms during exercise speedily increased the size of the muscles. Experimenting, in my efforts to discover the reason why, I found that this pressure during the alternate contraction and relaxations of the muscles, produced a determination of the blood to that point and therefore a distention of the vessels. Consequently, an enlargement of the structure occurs, just as a sponge will enlarge when its cells are filled with water. Acting upon this idea I substituted the pressure of the palms of the hands for Sampson's bands, and found that in this way the results were the same. Exercise for Sagging Face Muscles The muscles of the cheeks could be speedily enlarged by the following simple exercise, which I practice while lying on my back: Draw up both corners of the mouth towards the eyes, or in the position of an exaggerated smile. This will bunch up those supporting muscles on the upper part of the cheekbones immediately below the corners of the eyes. Now drop the chin to its utmost extent. This will place a further tension upon the cheek supporting muscles. In this position, that is, keeping them bunched up, alternately open and close the jaws, at the same time steadily massage, or rub with the palms of the hands. This will infallibly enlarge them. The logical reason behind this statement is that the overlying skin and the well-supported tissue will give the cheeks the rounded appearance of earlier years. How to Get Rid of a Double Chin: The Double Chin Exercise The muscles of the chin may be classed as involuntary and can only be developed by massage. But they usually respond more quickly to that process than the muscles that surround the eye. Rest the chin upon the palms of your hands, press firmly and rub the underlying muscles vigorously. This is the same method for the muscles surrounding the eye, but requiring more pressure. The position of the hands should be continually shifted. If continuous pressure is maintained upon any part without relaxation, development will be slow. Change positions, as I have suggested. If your chin was ever full and round in your younger years, that condition will be regained by persistent practice. There will also be an increase in color of the cheeks and a generally improved and more youthful appearance. When I was 50, my cheeks and chin were sunken but now, at 72, they are full and rounded. This is the result of the persistent practice of the exercise I have described. It is proven not to cause lines on the face and will develop the supporting muscles of your cheeks.

Organics for Natural Beauty

Organic food is essential for health. In the long term it is not possible to maintain high levels of vitality while consuming commercially grown food. Commercially grown foods are sprayed heavily with pesticides, herbicides and other toxic farming chemicals. Most likely they have been grown in soil filled with chemical fertilizers.
- Frederick Patenaude (The Sunfood Cuisine)

Organic foods contain more vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. They also contain fewer toxic chemicals since they are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

So why do I open up with an introduction to organic foods? Besides nourishing our bodies for optimum health and well being, nutritious foods also enhance our looks. Healthy looking skin isn’t just about using the best skin products, but also eating healthy nutritious foods. They nourish our skin as well, making it look healthy and radiant.

From my own personal experience, when I juice and eat foods rich in minerals, enzymes and vitamins, my skin looks radiant and healthy.
Nutrition for radiant skin includes:

• Vitamin A
• B Vitamins
• Zinc citrate or zinc gluconate
• Vitamin C
• Garlic
• Acidophilus
• Fiber
• Seawood products: Spirulina and green powder supplements.

I’m sure you have heard of the old adage “You are what you eat”. That makes a great deal of sense to me. Over the years I have learned that the most nutritious foods play such a major factor in how we look and feel.

When I was in Asia, I met many people who had poor diets. Their skin and hair were in poor condition. As well, their physical stamina was very poor. Anyone who wants to look good needs to feed the body the best nutrition which should include organic whenever possible. From my research and buying experience, just because something says that it is organic, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is organic. A label with the words “Certified Organic” is the only assurance that it is indeed organic.

Pure nutritional food will make you look and feel beautiful.

Jack Lalanne who is well past his 90th birthday looks many years younger. For those who don’t know who Jack is, he was regarded as one of the foremost fitness experts and had a popular fitness tv show back in the 50's. He is now promoting juicing on infomercals. Jack is an inspiring person for he truly walks his talk. He is as spry and energetic as many 50 year olds. Here is some of Jack’s wisdom:

• If man made, avoid it!
• Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat and fish. No white flour, white sugar. Avoid processed foods. No snacking.

Jack is a truly inspiring person. He walks his talk. You can find out more about Jack from the internet.

To find a truth out we need to experience it, so I challenge you to eat healthier by choosing the most wholesome food you can buy, preferably organic. Try this new diet for a month.

I would also suggest taking a picture of yourself before your new diet. Compare how you look a month later. You may be very amazed at how good your skin looks besides feeling energized and vital.
